Ideas for Galentine’s Day
Easy, thoughtful ways to celebrate your friends on 13 February, whatever your budget.
The best Galentine’s Day plans are simple. Pick something that suits your friends, not something that suits social media.
Stay in
Slow brunch
Everyone brings one thing. You make the pancakes and the coffee, and nobody looks at the clock.
Film night
Pick a theme, vote on the line-up and get the blankets out. The films you loved at 15 are always a good bet.
Pamper night
Face masks, nail painting and comfy clothes, with everyone taking turns on the music.
Craft night
Friendship bracelets, cards to swap or a scrapbook page each. Nobody has to be good at it.
Go out
Afternoon tea
Small sandwiches, scones and plenty of time to talk. Book early, because mid-February gets busy.
Spa day
Robes on, phones off. An evening session works well if a full day is hard to fit in.
Try a class
Pottery painting, dance, flower arranging or candle-making. Something none of you has done before.
A walk and a hot drink
Free, easy and good for a proper catch-up. Finish at a café you love.
Give something small
A handwritten note
Tell her exactly why she matters, and be specific. It costs nothing and means a lot.
Flowers
A small bunch of seasonal flowers says thank you without any fuss.
Something personal
A printed photo of you together, a book you think she will love, or a candle in her favourite scent.
Raise a glass, responsibly
Some friends like to toast Galentine’s Day with a glass of prosecco. If you are over 18 and choose to drink, pace yourselves, keep water on the table and plan how everyone will get home. Make the alcohol-free choices just as good, so nobody feels left out. Drinkaware has advice on drinking responsibly.
If you are apart
Brunch on a video call
Pick the same breakfast, set a time and eat together on screen.
Post it
A card or a small parcel timed to land on 13 February.
Make room for everyone
Galentine’s Day is about friendship. Think about who might be on her own this year, such as a new colleague, a neighbour or a friend going through a hard time, and invite her along. Friends of every gender are welcome to borrow the idea.
